As we left Hipditch House, we all sat down on the steps and took a selfie.

We drove around St. John’s a bit and took a few pictures, mosttly because I wanted some of the houses all painted wild colors. I had asked Randy, the tour guide from the day before, if this had always been a “thing” in St. John’s, and he said it started in the 1970s when people just used whatever paint they could get their hands on. I guess they decided that they like it, and so did we.

These colors are pretty tame by St. John’s standards.

After a quick trip to Sobey’s, we headed down the coast of the Avalon Peninsula toward Ferryland, where we had a picnic lunch to eat on the grounds. The woman serving the meal said her grandmother had been born there at the light.

The lighthouse at Ferryland Head. It’s typical Newfoundland landscape with all the rocks and the drop down to the water.
