Jim and Val
We left Trepassey about 9:30 for a long drive to Heart’s Delight on a beautiful sunny day. We were told there was a possibility of seeing whales at St. Vincent Beach, which was on our route. It was a beautiful black sand crescent beach with a wonderful view of the ocean, but alas, no whales (or seals) to be seen.

So we continued on our way to lunch in Harbor Grace. Just short of Harbour Grace we noticed our first (and only) iceberg!

We ate lunch at the Courthouse restaurant, which just a few years ago was a working courthouse. The waitress, Lisa, was a hoot and put us in a cell to eat our lunch!. She worked in management and said she should have quit 30 years ago and taken up waitressing because she just loves food and people.

Before leaving Harbour Grace we visited the local tribute to Amelia Earhart, who departed from Harbour Grace on her transatlantic flight in 1932. There is a brass statue of her there which was stolen in 2024 and cut up for eventual melting down. However, the parts were discovered in the woods after a fire and reassembled.

We continued on through Heart’s Content and Heart’s Desire finally arriving in Heart’s Delight where we met many members of the Sooley family. (Ken Sooley is the fellow who runs Cape Race, the agency we booked our tour through). We bought frozen pizza and veggies and cooked our dinner in house.
