Jim

Today’s adventure started with accompanying Ken’s uncle Billie as he checked his lobster pots. When we were done, Billie sold us 6 of the lobsters which we planned to have for dinner.

But first we took a short ride to Dildo for lunch at the Dildo Brewery. We all had the unavoidable giggle at the name of the town, but just for the record, a dildo was first the post on a rowboat that one places the oars upon, so you can stop your giggling. The best part of the lunch was the onion rings. Best Tom and Jim have ever had! We then went on a search for a gift shop Deb had got wind of, but couldn’t find it.

When we got back to Heart’s Delight we boiled up the lobsters and dismembered them the best we could with the scant tools available. Deb made us all bibs out of plastic bags, but we still managed to get pretty messy anyway.

Our lobster dinner. Can’t get any fresher.

After dinner we prepared for the “surprise” Ken had promised for us – a Kitchen Party. Five local gentlemen showed up with guitars and fiddle to serenade us with Newfoundland folk songs. They were very good, although understanding the lyrics proved a bit difficult, given the accents. When they were done, we all got SCREECHED. This is a process one has to go through to become a true Newfoundlander. It consists of repeating a tongue twister in a Newfoundland accent, kissing a cod fish, and drink a shot of screech rum.

We all signed the flag, so now there are six new Newfoundlanders, each of with an official certificate and everything!

  1. Those hats look like the one the Mortan salt man used to wear. I wonder if he was from Newfoundland.
